Privacy Policy
Treecams · Last updated June 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Treecams (“we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the service you agree to this policy. Questions? Email codyohlsen@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account details — your email address (for sign-in via magic link or Google) and an optional camera label.
- Trail-camera credentials — if you connect a Reveal/Tactacam account, the password you provide is encrypted with public-key cryptography before it is stored. It is never written to our database in plaintext and our website cannot decrypt it; only our isolated polling service can use it to fetch your photos on your behalf.
- Phone numbers — provided by you to receive SMS alerts, verified by a one-time code.
- Photos & detections — images from your cameras plus metadata we derive (species/category, confidence score, capture time, camera name, battery/telemetry for your own devices).
- Usage data — basic analytics (pages viewed, actions taken) and standard server logs.
How we use it
- Authenticate you and operate your account.
- Fetch, store, and display your camera photos and galleries.
- Run automated AI species detection on your images.
- Send the SMS/Discord alerts and usage notices you've enabled.
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photos to train models or for any purpose other than running and improving the service for you.
Service providers
We share data only with the processors needed to run the service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and image storage.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Twilio — SMS alerts and phone-number verification.
- Google — optional Google sign-in (OAuth).
- DataCrunch — AI species-detection inference.
- Amazon Web Services — server infrastructure and image ingest.
Each handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Tactacam/Reveal; we access your trail-camera data only because you direct us to.
Retention & deletion
Stored photos are retained according to your plan and may be removed by retention limits or storage caps (detection metadata may be kept for analytics). You can delete a camera or account at any time, which removes the associated stored images. To request deletion of your data, email codyohlsen@gmail.com.
Your choices
- Access, correct, or delete your data by request.
- Disconnect a camera or stop alerts at any time.
- Reply STOP to any SMS to opt out of texts to that number.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the site, plus limited first-party analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Children
The service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
